Project T

The tale of our 1991 Acura Integra RS Hatchback being brought back from the dead. Neglected for years, this car now has a home where it'll be cared for and made into a properly awesome little Honda. This car may end up with track aspirations, who knows. All we do know is that it's a blast to drive and it's only going to get better.

Another one bites the dust.

Now I am the proud owner of two broken down 90's Hondas. Yay!

1-19-2011 - Everything buttoned up for my birthday

Everyone asked me how my birthday went. Well, I spent my day finishing the Civic, and troubleshooting the electrical system on the Teg. What a great way to spend a birthday...lol.

There are many details I'd like to change on the Civic's engine bay. All of them involve significant amounts of money though, so it's going to be a while.

I tweaked all of the injector wiring to do a semi tuck on it. It'll look a little cleaner with some more time, but it's good enough for now. I will spend more time on it when I get an aftermarket fuel rail. read more »

1-8-2011 - Random 50mm fun, underbody cladding install, heat restored

Adam got the AC delete duct off G2IC.com and slapped that puppy in, he also swapped out the switchware for it so it no longer shows AC in the car.

I installed all of the underbody cladding on the car.... finally. No more dirt party in the engine bay... yay!

Took pix of random ish in the engine bay with the 50mm lens.

12-27-2010 - New intake, some Christmas toys

The parts for the new intake arrived today. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to get that installed, Adam got quick to work on measuring and cutting the new pipe.

Adam also got a JDM Integra Type-R billet oil cap and BWR extended purple lug nuts for Christmas. I unfortunately didn't get any good photos of the lugs as the outside of the car was too damned dirty/wet...lol

Car is still running well, needs a new exhaust setup so bad... it sounds like donkey.

12-24-2010 - Adam's birthday miracle

She lives!

After a couple days of haggling with wiring and the distributor, we finally got the car to start up and run smoothly Christmas eve morning.

Hooked up the ghetto intake for now, nicer bits are in the mail.

Got the front end all lined up and back together. Left a few interior pieces out for now.

Took her out for a drive to do a quick fuel tune.... a very important detail considering it's not running on 2008 Civic Si injectors. It's funny how much nicer the new pencil style injectors are in comparison to the ancient large body style. They totally smoothed out the fuel curve in S-manager. I also had to add quite a bit fuel up top as the test pipe was obviously flowing much better than that tiny cat.

Adam had fun tuning the brakes with the new adjustable prop valve setup, it seems to work pretty trick. read more »

12-21-2010 - Brakes are soooo close, fuel works, ECU tested

GAH! Adam re-flared all of the leaky spots and one of them is still leaking. We suspect the T that it's attaching to now. The leak in the MC reservoir was a faulty o-ring, how dumb is that? It had a chunk missing out of it...lol

We hooked up a bunch of the electrical stuff in the car so we could test the fuel and ECU. Surprisingly nothing blew up haha. The fuel primed with no leaks, and the ECU went live in S300 and read a bunch of sensors. We can't really test everything until the rest of the car is put together, but so far so good.

Took some cool photos of Adam cutting a bolt, thought the effect of the sparks flying was sweet.

Replaced the resistor for the heater blower, there will finally be more than 1 speed.

Connected all of the coolant hoses and clamped them down, got the smexy new T-bolts from Fastenal and installed them.

12-20-2010 - Bolts swapped, Exhaust done, Brakes almost there

Got the rest of my allen head bolts from Fastenal, unfortunately they -still- don't have my t-bolt clamps since the warehouse lackeys decided to send me pvc t conduit instead of t-bolt clamps. DAMN RETARDS THAT SMOKE TOO MUCH POT... UGH.

Got the lower header and the test pipe bolted back up.

I tortured Adam and told him he couldn't go home until we had bled all 4 corners of the brakes. Well, he didn't end up leaving until 4:30...lol. He got the lines all made up and brackets fashioned and the proportioning valve is in!

It took forever to get fluid to come out of the rear brakes... and we realized that one of the lines was higher than the master cylinder so I had to re-bend and finesse it into a different shape.

The big problem we have now is leaks... of course. read more »

12-19-2010 - Lights, camera....

No action. Things are still going slowly. So much for getting the car running this weekend...blah.

I finished up the interior light bulb replacement with all new oem's.

Adam took the valve cover home and painted it. Brought it back orange peeled to hell... I spent most of the day wet sanding it with 2000 and then polishing it >carefully<

It turned out.... blah. Next time, we need to grind down ALL of the casting on the valve cover so the color comes out more uniform. As it is now, it's very dual tone and not in a good way. Oh wells, it will do for now. I cleaned up the gasket, re-hondabonded the head, and installed the VC and the new spark plug cover.

I also got under the car and dealt with the fuel vapor line, put that whole area back together. Also swapped the oil drain plug washer for a new one.... details, details.

Adam spent most of his time today working on the setup for the prop valve but had to leave before it could be completed. read more »

12-18-2010 - Moar slow, less fast

This car refuses to leave my garage. It is one with it. Seems like every day we get less and less done. Every issue we face is more and more perplexing.

Adam reinstalled the pedals, I attached the brake clevis, we have a working brake pedal with the new MC, yay!

A good deal of time was spent in the cabin, prepping for the brake prop valve. I adjusted the wiring in the cabin to fix up some issues with wires reaching certain places.

Adam and I both worked on the valve cover, taking turns with sanding. Adam finally got the polishing portion done. Unfortunately the surface ended up really uneven. We'll probably just use this VC temporarily and buy another one to strip and spend more time prepping to get it perfect. We threw it on really quick and snapped a shot to see how it looks polished... not my cup of tea (at least with a silver spark plug cover).

I started working on replacing all of the bulbs in the switches and various interior lights.

12-17-2010 - Bits n pieces

Progress was slow going today.

Adam focused on interior wiring and got a bunch of stuff organized / sheathed. He got all of the engine wiring harness plugs attached.

I reassembled the calipers and painted them (yes I know the rotor and springs look like ass, not important right now). I also installed the new Russell speed bleeders. Good thing too since 3 out of the 4 stock ones were rusted shut...

I also had a go at installing the fenders, even in their semi-fail state. Nothing really lines up properly when the car is in the air, so I just installed them loosely and made sure all of the bolts are started. Will have to wait till she's on the floor before finishing.
