2-13-2010 - New battery & reloc for the teg, custom intake shield

On a whim we decided it was time to deal with the battery. Being able to see the intake temps on the teg put the idea in our heads that we needed to devise a solution for shielding the short ram.... Odyssey PC680MJ to the rescue.

The tiny battery saved us 15+ lbs and allowed us to relocate it out of the way. We built a custom cradle for it and replaced the terminal connectors.

We then took thin sheet metal and covered it with heat insulator for heating pipes in a house. We also wrapped the entire intake tube in that same insulation. The results? The IAT's are 30 degrees cooler at idle!!! This is going to make a huge difference in the performance of the car in the summer by reducing heat soak in traffic. We also plan to get a IMG soon to help keep the intake manifold cooler.

EDIT: Many people have expressed interest in this heat wrap we used. Here's a link to it on Home Depot's website : http://www.homedepot.com/Building-Materials-Plumbing/Armacell/h_d1/N-5yc...
