2-21-2010 - Charge pipe heat wrap

Tidied a few things up on the car tonight.

Installed the grommet from the SO2 onto the wire leading into the cabin for the EGT gauge. At 6am when we finished the install of the DP, I just didn't have the consciousness to even think about it. Now that is sealed off properly and should keep water out.

A few of the couplers on the charge pipes weren't sitting the way I liked. So I loosened, adjusted and re-tightened them to make sure they would seal well. While I was in there, I decided to wrap the charge pipe leading to the throttle body with the same heat resistant wrap we used on the teg. As I have time, I'll probably go through and wrap several more of the pipes.

2-19-2010 - 3" down pipe and gauges install

Ugh, going to bed at 6am FTL. Getting my new 3" dp and wideband/EGT gauges installed FTW.

It was a long arduous process which had a few moments of near defeat. We prevailed though, saved by the honda parts drawer once again... we also had to make a couple of our own bolts by cutting the long bolts from the Greddy downpipe.

It's laughable how tiny the stock exhaust is in comparison to the downpipe. Fail.

Matching boost and wideband gauges are sechsy. The EGT is sitting in the center console until we devise a mounting solution for it.

2-18-2010 - New 3" Down Pipe for the Si

Got my new down pipe for the Civic today. Also in the package, a Greddy EGT gauge. Hoping to install it tomorrow.

It arrived in great shape, beautiful welds, excellent quality. That said, I love shiny exhaust parts, so I spent some time tonight polishing it up...

2-13-2010 - New battery & reloc for the teg, custom intake shield

On a whim we decided it was time to deal with the battery. Being able to see the intake temps on the teg put the idea in our heads that we needed to devise a solution for shielding the short ram.... Odyssey PC680MJ to the rescue.

The tiny battery saved us 15+ lbs and allowed us to relocate it out of the way. We built a custom cradle for it and replaced the terminal connectors.

We then took thin sheet metal and covered it with heat insulator for heating pipes in a house. We also wrapped the entire intake tube in that same insulation. The results? The IAT's are 30 degrees cooler at idle!!! This is going to make a huge difference in the performance of the car in the summer by reducing heat soak in traffic. We also plan to get a IMG soon to help keep the intake manifold cooler.

2-6-2010 - Wideband for the teg, Boost gauge for the Civic

Fed up with not being able to tune the fuel on the teg, we got a wideband for it. Wired it directly into the S300 so we can datalog it.

Got the boost gauge installed on the Civic as well. I re-routed all of the vacuum connections while I was in there. Everything feeds off the brake booster line now.

2-5-2010 - Hot Car Is Blueish White ???

2-3-2010 - Hot car is Hot

2-1-2010 - Injectors installed, FPR crushed and testing finished

Finished up the fuel system upgrades today. Posted my findings here: http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/forced-induction-nitrous/194209-fuel-inje...

1-31-2010 - Finished timing belt, Upgraded fuel pump and pressure testing, Civic front lip install

What a day. We finished up the timing belt install on the teg, Adam installed mud flaps, then got it out of the garage so we could shift gears to working on the Civic.

Doug@Hondata sent me his fuel pressure tester to run an array of tests on the fuel pressure of the system as I performed each upgrade to the system. We had to test at the tank and at the fuel rail, this made for interesting drives down the road in the rain with the pressure tester coming through the passenger window.... Adam loved every moment of it...lol

After doing the tests from the pump, we decided to get the front lip installed as it was getting late and I didn't feel like driving around in the rain any more.

1-30-2010 - Chaos

The girls are out of town for the weekend, so Adam and I took on a bunch of projects to fill our time this weekend.

Got new OEM front lips for both the Si and the teg. The lip for the teg is special because these don't exist. Adam's sister works for Honda and was able to find one tucked away in a warehouse somewhere. It's brand spanking new...

After we got that painted and installed, I got under the car to change the oil... and was greeted by dripping coolant.... from the water pump. Knowing what this means, we set out to tear the engine apart and replace the water pump. Not what we'd originally had in mind, but we got it handled anyways.
